The edge of the brittle desire to actually stand for something is that of the divided kingdom of the sand which is against itself. If there was love, they would have desired that long-enduring long-suffering quality and stood firm like that of the rock. Instead, the lack of love fuels the envy (not admiration) they have for what is long-lasting & steadfast and which is grounded and ready and equipped to give an account for one's faith! And as opposed to being aware of that very quality, and turning their possible admiration into any action and an internal pursuit of wisdom and righteousness--the lack of love in essence is envy which eventually fossilizes into a reckless and spiritually hostile spite...which cannot stand as it is chaff and not wheat.
